Online GPA Training

Here’s some exciting news! It’s been a long time coming, but there are now 2 online GPA training courses!  Both are video based and self-paced and were created to meet the needs of learners who want to use the Growing Participator Approach. This is a beta version, so the videos aren’t beautiful and there may still be some typos, but the content was created with input from experienced GPA trainers.

Intro to Growing Participation (Free!)– this quick 45 minute course introduces you to GPA, gives an overview of how long it might take to reach your goals, and helps you figure out where to go next

Phase 2: Emerging ($25, or $5 for the Majority World with code MAJORITY) – an in-depth guide to Phase 2 bringing together all you’ll need to prepare for and enjoy this phase, getting the most out of 150 hours with your nurturer. There’s almost 4 hours of content, step-by-step instructions, explanations, and lots of other resources.

We hope to add courses for each phase over the coming year and are looking forward to hearing your feedback or any questions.

Watch Phase 1 in Action!

Have you ever wondered how to introduce pronouns in Phase 1? or how to get familiar with the words for family members without long explanations?

A friend of the Growing Participator Approach, has shared videos with us where Greg and Angela Thomson talk through and demonstrate the games and activities for Phase 1: Connecting. Some examples are below, but you can find all the videos which demonstrate every activity in Phase 1 on our new Vimeo account.

There are also some great longer videos with Greg explaining more about GPA and answering FAQ.

Some Examples — Pronouns and Family Members

Beginning at 2:40, watch Angela demonstrate how to introduce pronouns in the very first meeting.

Beginning at 2:43, watch the demonstration of how to introduce the words for family members.

  • Put together a little ad or flyer. (get a friend to help you write it in the local language). Then walk around and pass this around the neighborhood asking if anyone knows someone looking for a job. By handing out a printed flyer along with your verbal “request”, you show people you are serious and also give them time to think/reflect about the opportunity.

  • Ask your neighborhood or community leader…
